Do I need to learn Italian or English before I come to Italy?
No, when you arrive we don't expect you to know Italian. We will encourage you to complete an Italian language course when you are here. It's always helpful to know some basic Italian words and phrases before you arrive for everyday situations.

We do however require that you speak some basic English. If you don't speak any English you will need to come a little earlier to complete a basic English language course offered by Style Design College before starting your course.
What languages are the courses taught in?
Lectures are conducted in English and Italian. English is the main language on Campus due to the International background of the College. However students are encouraged to learn Italian which will assist them while they stay in Italy.
Who are the lecturers?
Lecturers are Italian and International masters of their field. They have been personally selected by Mr. Fourie for their achievements and qualifications.
How do the lecturers teach?
SDC has very strict teaching policies that ensure that students are taught one-on-one which means that students are given personal attention when needed.

A lecturer may give a theoretic presentation and then hand out an assignment for students to complete before going around the class (student to student) and assisting each student with their understanding and work.
Can students come and go as they please?
SDC has strict rules as to the number of lectures that have to be attended each week by a student for a student to pass each year.
Must I buy a laptop?
SDC has computers on Campus which are used during lecture times to teach CAD (Computer Aided Design).

We do however encourage students who are able to afford it purchase a laptop which they can use in their spare time to complete assignments or CAD drawings. Bring your own laptop or purchase one in Italy.
Must I buy my own sewing machine?
The SDC Campus has sewing machines and overlockers that fashion students use during lecture times. Many students also like to sew at home so that they can complete assignments or create additional garments in their free time.

Sewing machines can be purchased here in Milan.
How are students chosen in the admission process?
SDC has an international reputation to uphold and so only accepts students with potential to be great designers/photographers.
What are the age restrictions of your students?
SDC has no age restrictions and our International Campuses accept students from 17 - 70 years old. If you have a passion for design or photography and you're creative and talented you're perfect for our College.
How will I pay for my course?
Once you are accepted you need to pay an enrolment fee. This fee can be paid by credit card.

Our Admission office will send you an invoice for the tuition fees. This can be paid by bank transfer or by credit card.
How much money should I budget for living in Milan?
This is a tricky question as everyone has a different lifestyle. Some have smaller budgets and can't travel or do any shopping, while other students have a lot more money for leisure. We recommend you refer to the Student Life page and first ensure your accommodation and meal and stationery requirements are paid for before thinking of a budget for other things.
How will I pay for things in Italy?
You should have at least one credit card when you enter Italy. Visa and MasterCard are accepted everywhere and you can use them at an ATM. You may also have money wired to you by Western Union.

Another safe option is to bring travellers cheques that you can cash as you need them. Warning: only certain debit cards work in Italy.
I am a single young lady, is it safe for me to come study alone?
Yes! Milan is safer than many other cities. In orientation we will instruct you on what not to do and where not to go. Many of our students are young ladies from around the world that quickly learn how to become independent, confident women.
How will studying in Milan, Italy benefit my future?
